“Did you hear the latest podcast?”
“I listened to the best podcast the other day!”
“You won’t believe what I learned from a podcast.”
You may have heard your co-workers or friends saying things like this about podcasts they listen to. These free digital audio files are available online from many different places.
You can listen to podcasts online or download them and listen to them later at your convenience. For many people living life on the go, it can be hard to find time to read, so they choose to listen to podcasts. Others prefer to listen while doing housework, a hobby or craft, commuting to work, or while walking. You never know what you might learn by listening.
Which podcasts are the most popular?
You might wonder what everyone else is listening to. Good Housekeeping offers a selection of top podcasts of 2019. Apple has its own list that is updated every few days. If you’re into developing your workplace skills, the PlayerFM site offers loads of professional development podcast options.
How do you access podcasts?
Computer. Your web browser—such as Firefox, Google Chrome, or Safari—is a great tool for finding and listening to podcasts. Find a website that has podcasts you like, find the player on the page, check that your device’s sound is switched on, and you’re ready to play a podcast.
Mobile device. iPhone or iPad users should already have the Apple Podcasts app downloaded. If you don’t have it downloaded, you can go to the App Store and download it. If you have an Android phone, try installing the Google podcasts app using the Google Play Store app. There are many podcast apps available, so you can use your app of choice to search for topics. You can also try streaming services such as Spotify for podcasts.
Where can I find podcasts?
The really neat thing about podcasts is that there are so many choices. No matter what your interests are, you can find a podcast you’ll enjoy. Whether you search online or search using an app, there are loads of options:
- Kids may find something interesting on Common Sense Media’s website.
- Adults might like the list of podcasts on the NPR website.
- Women may enjoy some of these on Good Housekeeping’s site.
- Men may prefer some of the titles on the Men’s Health website.
There are podcasts based on interests, too. Check out podcasts for folks interested in:
- Foods and eating
- Stories and reading
- Professional development
- And our favorite: Health care and health insurance
Because there is such a large selection of podcasts, you may want to try a website that helps you curate your podcasts. There are many options listed on the howtogeek.com website that can help you get started and help you manage your list so you don’t get overwhelmed. Happy listening!
