This summer, Medicare will celebrate their 50th anniversary on July 30. This remarkable program gives America’s seniors access to affordable health care.
Every day, 10,000 seniors celebrate their 65th birthdays, making each one of them eligible for Medicare. Today, nearly 50 million Americans depend on Medicare for health insurance coverage. That’s a lot!
On July 30, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed Medicare into law. In 1997, Medicare developed Part C, or Medicare Advantage plans, through the Balanced Budget Act. Then in 2003, Medicare developed Part D prescription drug coverage. There are now more than 42 million seniors enrolled in Part D plans nationwide!
WPS Health Solutions has been with Medicare from the very beginning, dating back to 1966 when they were named the administrator of Medicare Part B for Wisconsin. Now, WPS Government Health Administrators processes claims for Medicare in six states and is consistently ranked as one of the top claim administrators in the country for accurate and timely processing and customer inquiry responses.
At WPS Health Solutions, we are committed to preserving the principles Medicare was founded on, including efficient service, low costs, and accessible care. Our claims processing division strives to be an innovation leader as a Medicare administrator. Our Medicare supplements and prescription drug plans are cost-effective and help beneficiaries get the care they need.
More than 23,000 seniors have enrolled in our Medicare Part D plan! For 2015, WPS MedicareRx (PDP) plans are the highest-rated prescription drug plans in Wisconsin, earning 5 out of 5 stars, the highest possible rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).* WPS Health Insurance earned its stars due to its impeccable customer service, member experiences with the drug plan, drug pricing, and, most importantly, patient safety.
Happy 50th anniversary, Medicare! We salute you as we continue to offer additional coverage to Medicare-eligible seniors.
